Hasan Elahi

While researching other Digital Arts & Culture communities, I came across Hasan Elahi, a professor at the University of Maryland.

For those of you who don't know Elahi, he is an interdisciplinary media artist with an emphasis on technology and media. Oh yeah, he is also on the US government terrorist watch list. Since being on this list, he started documenting every waking hour of his life. He posts copies of all his debit card transactions showing what he bought, where he bought it, and when. He even keeps a GPS device in his pocket that is connect to a real-time map to show his physical location. The government can go to his website whenever they want to see where he is and what he is doing. He has had hits from the Pentagon, Secretary of Defense, and the Executive Office of the President.

Elahi is taking away the secrecy of his information by disclosing it to the public- therefore taking away its value and making it worthless. He refers to this as using "market sources".

For more information check out Hasan Elahi on the Colbert Report.
